Acupuncture and moxibustion can help with sleep issues. Have you been having trouble sleeping? Or maybe you are sleeping for what would seem like enough hours each night, but still feel as though the sleep you get is not good quality sleep and you are always feeling tired?
A number of studies show very good results when acupuncture and moxibustion have been used for individuals who are experiencing sleep difficulties. The studies have shown that the combination of both acupuncture and moxibustion has been an effective treatment for insomnia and can at times, for some patients, be better than just acupuncture alone.
Some people respond just to acupuncture, while for others the combination of acupuncture and moxibustion works best
While for many people, Acupuncture alone has a good effect on their sleeping results. In the research, there was a group of patients given just acupuncture and another group given both acupuncture and moxibustion. The group that received both treatments showed a higher percentage of a better success rate and had better sleep quality when they received both treatments.
Across the board, all of the studies showed improvement in sleep patterns. However, patients in the group receiving both acupuncture and moxibustion had higher success for better sleep quality, shorter time to fall asleep, plus improved daytime function.
Additional studies show improvement with sleep and a number of other health issues
In an adjacent recent research project related to sleep, it was concluded that acupuncture is effective for improving sleep quality and emotional issues for patients with schizophrenia.
And yet another study has confirmed that acupuncture enhances slow-wave sleep (SWS). Slow-wave sleep is commonly referred to as deep sleep. It is both the third and fourth stage of non-rapid eye movement sleep. Delta brain waves are dominant during SWS. Deep sleep occurs in longer periods in the first three hours of sleep. Generally speaking, children tend to have longer periods of deep sleep while elderly individuals often experience nights without deep sleep. New research has confirmed that acupuncture and moxibustion improve the quality of deep sleep.
